Prize for Jonas Hetz (M.Sc.)

Prize of the Association of Friends of the University of Stuttgart e.V.: As part of the annual general meeting on 25 July 2018, prizes were awarded for outstanding theses and dissertations. For the final thesis, Jonas Hetz (M.Sc.) from the Institute of Algebra and Number Theory (IAZ) received the prize of the Association of Friends of the University of Stuttgart e.V. for his master's thesis "Representations of Chevalley Groups" (supervisor Prof. Dr. Meinolf Geck).

The master's thesis deals with the representation theory of semisimple complex Lie algebras and the Chevalley groups constructed with them over arbitrary algebraically closed bodies according to Robert Steinberg. The central component is an existence proof for simple moduli of a given Lie algebra to a so-called highest weight. This is based on theoretical arguments as well as on concrete programmes with the computer algebra system "GAP". Based on this, the irreducible representations of the corresponding Chevalley group can be described in an analogous way. Two proofs by Steinberg are presented for this purpose.
